There will be an Information Literacy (IL) Week in Second Life (SL) 9-15 November 2009.

The home for this event is now http://infolit-week-in-SL.ning.com/

- All aspects of IL are interesting: this is NOT just about IL in SL. SL is just the venue

- There will be some core events planned, but the rest is up to you. A discussion, an exhibition, wearing an "Information Literacy" badge or tag above your head, putting up a poster saying what IL is (in your language) ... however small or large, if you have an idea, please contribute.

- This date tied in with the original proposed US National Information Literacy month (see http://www.infolit.org/news/campaign.html)  The IL awareness month in the USA in October 2009

There was a meeting on the 10 June 2009 in which it was agreed that this was a good idea. The chatlog of that is here http://sleeds.org/chatlog/?c=437 and you will see that people already came up with some ideas. Sheila Yoshikawa (Sheila Webber in SL) is leading the initiative at the moment. A further meeting refined the idea.

The event has been endorsed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Information Literacy section.

There will be a "light touch" check that the events people are adding have some relevance to information literacy (just to filter out "spam" events!) but otherwise this is mainly an unconference approach. In addition we may be adding hints and advice about raising IL awareness, and setting out a few special events e.g. to celebrate the start and finish of the week.
